SSVRC Round Three – KVR Motorsport Stages 2025
SSVRC Round Three – KVR Motorsport Stages 2025 – Results and Report
Welcome to this edition of SSVRC news, bringing you all the latest on the Glenrothes MSC supported, Blasting Magic sponsored Scottish Single Venue Rally Championship. With co support from McIntyre Masonry, JW Electrical (Fife), Motorwise rescue & recovery, Mercury Motorsport, Airtec, Y- MAC Engineering, Engine 710, Onestop and MAC Grafix.
Crail airfield in the East Neuk of Fife hosted the competitors of the SSVRC for round three, the KVR Motorsport sponsored summer stages, organised by GMSC. The event was also a round in the Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship,
North East Tarmac Rally Championship, and Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge.
Approximately 60 miles, with 6 stages, run over the fast and flowing airfield runways and perimeter roads were planned for the crews to tackle. Unfortunately two separate red flags on the first stage (after two crews rolled) resulted in stage one being cancelled.
It was looking likely that stage six was in jeopardy too with a five o’clock curfew. Luckily the curfew was extended slightly, and with a bit of juggling of the service and changeover times the last stage was able to be run unabated.
The event was, as usual, extremely hard on cars, resulting in a high attrition rate. Only 40 of the 60 senior crews made it to the finish, many of those that fell by the wayside had transmission problems.
Unusually for Crail the weather was dry and warm, one could have been forgiven for thinking that it was actually summer at times…..
Class F:
James and Rebecca Wilson in the 1400 cc MG ZR lost a bit of time after an uncharacteristic mistake from the navigator sent them on an extra lap of the airfield on stage three.
The Fife pair fought their way up the leaderboard again with a spirited performance throughout the day.
More drama was to unfold for the siblings, who were gutted to loose drive on stage six. Thinking it was gearbox failure they got back to find a snapped shaft, the result an unfortunate DNF for the local crew.
Connor Black with unregistered Duncan Daun alongside on the notes were seeded at 55in the venerable Mazda 323.
Connor reported that; “the day started off brilliant putting in some of the best times we’ve done. Making up 20 positions after stage 2!” However, their luck ran out on the third stage when the gear-lever broke, necessitating driving the rest of the stage one handed with the other hand occupied holding the gear stick in place.
That wasn’t the end of their dramas; “on stage 4 the car died on us… pulled over, pushed a few connections under the bonnet and gave it a bump start. Magically we got going again, but by that point we got stage maximum.Back to service for lunch and we gave everything a good look over, but couldn’t see where the issue was coming from. However we got out for the last 2 stages and had a proper blast, even though it kept popping out of second gear.
After a great day out Connor ended up netting some useful SSVRC points, 9th overall and 2nd in class.
Andrew Milne with father Gordon navigating in the Suzuki Swift GTI had a good rally. After a difficult previous trip to Crail last November, Andrew had an excellent run on the KVR Motorsport Stages, with a clean run on all the stages. The Swift worked well all day with no mechanical issues, 100% finish record so far in 2025! The crew really enjoyed the stages, with SS3&4 particularly good. Mach 1 next….
Andrew ended the day 8 th overall and 1st in class in the SSVRC. Gordon 7th overall and 1st in class.
Class E:
Colin Hay and Jess Jamieson were back out in the 1600 Vauxhall Corsa, however transmission problems reared their head once again for the crew on stage two, which regrettably put an end to their day.
Colin Blake was another SSVRC competitor who had more misfortune in the Mini, after suffering more problems with the throttle body he decided to retire.
Liam Harvey and Chris Wareham were back out in the 1600 cc Mk7 Fiesta, the pair were going well until unfortunate engine failure on stage 5 resulted in retirement.
Kenny Moore and Fiona Moir in the beautiful Avenger GT reported they had a great days rallying. The Avenger never missed a beat, and only needed topping up with fuel all day. They were pleased with the finish compared to all the modern machinery out there, and with collecting another batch of championship points. Kenny with 7th overall and 3rd in class, Fiona taking 6th overall and 3rd in class.
Drew Barker and Shona Hale car 31, enjoyed both the sun and their rally, having a battle with the similar 1600 cc Corsa B of Joe Pringle most of the day.
Drew finished 5th overall and 1st in class within the SSVRC, Shona 5th overall and 2nd in class.
Des Campbell and Rhys Donaldson, in the Peugeot 206 had a all day class battle with Peter O’Neill in the Nova; eventually coming out on top after a blistering performance on stages 5 and 6.
The pair seeded at 7 finished the day 5th overall, both taking maximum championship points to currently lead the SSVRC.
Class D:
Graeme and Jim Rintoul in car 24 were going well all day in their Fiesta ST, until the last stage. When about a mile and a half before the finish they run out of fuel. An unlucky way not to finish a rally, but no damage to anything other than pride and championship points.
Kev Paris and father George in the Mk2 Escort, car 42 won the prestigious Tam Ness trophy for best GMSC crew. Unfortunately the crew were only eligible for restricted class Championship points due to lack of entries in the class.
Kev netted 2nd overall in the Championship and 1st in class.
Class C:
Stephen Donnelly and navigator Colin McCall were seeded at 33 in the historic spec Escort RS1800. They have had issues with the ZF gearbox since a recent rebuild, trouble reared its head again so Stephen decided to withdraw rather than cause any more damage. Disappointing after their good result in the last round at Kames.
Duncan Ferguson, once again with Jamie McQue alongside on the notes, put in a great performance in the fabulous Andrew’s Heat For Hire liveried Chevette.
Seeded at 33 the duo went onto win the coveted hard charger award.
Duncan was 3rd overall and 2nd in the SSVRC, Jamie 3rd overall and 1st in class. Unfortunately the crew were only eligible for restricted class Championship points due to lack of entries in the class.
Class B:
Hayden Broony Brown was in the silly seat of car 36, alongside unregistered Ross Cree in his GC8 Impreza. The pair started the day off well, getting into the swing of it for their first ever time together. They were held up on stage one, following the accident of car 27. With the anti lag switched on from stage two the crew soon started to climb up the leaderboard. Disaster soon struck however, on stage 5 they were halfway through when 3rd gear decided to give up the ghost. They decided to try and limp it around the last lap, however just after the split the turbo expired. The pair reported they had a really good day out even with the retirement.
Next up for Hayden is Mach 1 with Peter Fleming in the MK2 Escort.
Joe McKenand and Charlotte Macdowell seeded at 9th also suffered gearbox failure after stage 4 in their Subaru, again unfortunately ending their day.
Bobby MacDonald with usual navigator Martin McCabe alongside in car 17 had better luck in their Impreza. Bobby was pleased to amass some well deserved championship points and happy that the Subaru remains in one piece for their assault on Argyle in two weeks time.
Bobby came away from Crail with 4th overall in the Championship and 1st in class. Martin 4th overall and 2nd in class.
Andrew Side enjoyed his first ever visit to Crail navigating for unregistered Ross Chalmers in the Impreza. The pair seeded at 15 had a good event. Andrew managed to secure a ride only in the last few weeks with Ross. The pair finishing a impressive 7th overall and in 1st in class. Their only drama of the day was a brief scrap with the tire wall on the navigators side.
Andrew claimed 2nd overall in the Championship and 1st in class, netting him some useful points.
The next round of the SSVRC is the double header DCC Mach 1 stages, sponsored by Air Tech Integrity on the 12th /13th of July. We look forward to bringing you news of all the action.
