Update on the Summer Stages Rally, Saturday 12th June 2021

Glenrothes Motor Sport Club are delighted to announce that Motorsport UK yesterday granted an event organising permit for the 2021 Summer Stages Rally at Crail Airfield, Fife. The opening round of the 2021 Marshall Construction Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship, AS Performance North of England Tarmacadam Rally Championship and Back to Roots Tarmack Championship – and what is potentially the first rally in Scotland since March 2020!

Since Scotland’s change to “Stay Local” on 2nd April, several site visits by our Fife-based officials have taken place to further the development of this year’s event, and we thank our venue partners Crail Raceway, JM&W Turnbull and JW&OK Kilfedder for their continued support. Further to this, an application is being lodged with Motorsport UK for a proposed competitive route of 76 miles, over 8 special stages.

Supplementary Regulations will be published next week, week commencing 3rd May, and the event will open for entries at 19:00 Sunday 9th May. Demand is expected to be high, so GMSC will be rewarding those who have kindly supported our events in the past, with places being reserved for those who have contested 3 or more GMSC rallies in recent years.

  • Regulations Live w/c 3rd May
  • Entries Open 19:00 Sunday 9th May
  • 76 miles, over 8 special stages
  • Run inline with the latest Motorsport UK & Scottish Government COVID-19 requirements

The event will be subject to Scottish Government requirements at the time, with hopes high for movement of current limits on persons from separate households sharing a competing vehicle, to become closer in line with that of driving lessons which successfully restarted in Scotland as from 26th April. Discussions to this effect are ongoing, but we are assured and remain confident that this will be in place during May, to enable the safe running of a COVID-19 Secure event, which we know we and our partners can successfully deliver – Motorsport UK having run ~1,000 permitted events in 2020, with no recorded cases of virus transmission.

Owing to Scottish Government restrictions and Motorsport UK requirements, it is highly likely that the event will be non-spectator at this time. Naturally if this changes, we will let you know.

Sign-ups for marshalling and radios are also set to open next week, and will be warmly welcomed by our Chief Marshals James Moir / Andy Bruce, and Comms Officer Leanne Ritchie.

Thank you everyone for your continued patience, during what we are sure you’ll appreciate, are pretty challenging times to try and organise events – we know you are all as itching to get back to the stages as we are! Fingers crossed, the first time we see rally cars in competitive action in Scotland in nearly 15 months, will be at Crail on Saturday 12th June!
