Kirkcaldy Half Marathon Help Wanted
The Kirkcaldy Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday 28th August 2022. It starts at 10:00 in Beveridge Park with the road based route then travelling up the A910 Oriel Road/Wester Bogie before turning east along the Chapel Level continuing along the B981 Dunnikier Way towards the Elbow Room via Oswald Road and turning down Windmill Road crossing into Dysart and along the Pan Ha’ before turning West via the harbour and Ravenscraig onto the A921 and onto the prom, crossing about 3/4 of the way along and returning to Beveridge Park.
Significant traffic management will be in place from early morning in the form of temporary junction closures (prepared but not deployed initially, lots of signage and marshals etc. At the agreed time, restrictions will be put into place to stop, limit or manage traffic as required at various sections. Traffic Management will be removed on a rolling basis as runners have passed, and there is a 3 hour time limit for completion of the course before all restrictions and marshals are removed.
There are some heavily used roads which need to be crossed and a number of stop/go systems will be deployed (e.g. on the Chapel Level and Prom) and these would ideally be controlled by people with some experience in dealing with road based events – although specific training will naturally be given by the traffic management company as well.
We are also looking for people happy to manage road junctions to ‘enforce’ the restrictions (within reason and by persuasion) and take appropriate actions to warn the Race Directors, runners etc. where necessary.
In short, we are looking for a number of volunteers who are comfortable managing vehicles/roads which we thought might suit your members’ skill set, or with any other aspect of the event they’re comfortable with.
