63 Car Club Autotest & 2023 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship Final Results

63 Car Club Autotest 24/09/23

The 4th round of the 2023 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship run by 63CC was held at Dallochie on 24/09/23. Of the 7 entries there were 5 registered contenders taking part over 8 varied tests. To start with the surface was very grippy but as the day went on some parts got extremely slippy causing a few problems.

James Morrison took FTD in his Mini Special but was pushed all the way by Neil Morrison in a similar car. The battle for 3rd was very close all day, with Martin Gillespie in his MX5 only beating Paul Davidson in the Seat Mi by 1.3 seconds.

It was a battle of the MX5s for the last 3 places, Brian Morrison did well in his first event with the car, followed by Colin Rae who was struggling for grip, Ronnie Gillespie finished 7th despite missing some of the last tests.

We were due to have another 2 rounds to count towards the Championship, but due to circumstances beyond our control, these have had to be cancelled.

At the moment there seems to be the same problem that Rallying faced last year – too many being held on the same weekend across the country, possibly discouraging people from travelling to other events, maybe this could be discussed between all the Clubs before 2024.

What is very clear is the fact that the All Forward Autotests / AutoSolos are getting full entries, while the traditional Autotests are sometimes struggling to attract double figure entry lists. I believe there is still a place for the traditional Autotest format, but these events could also incorporate an all forward elemement to encourage new entrants into the sport, this would involve a bit more work with paperwork and on the day but may be the way forward.
