The Big Weekend!
Glenrothes MSC had one of its busiest weekends on record on 19th-20th March, with two rallies and an autosolo run over the two days.
On Saturday the inaugural Memorial Garden Stages Rally was held at Condor, comprising both senior and junior events. It was the first round of the Junior Championship, with 13 crews competing for overall honours. The win was secured by Finlay Retson and Andrew Falconer in their Citroen, with a 46 second margin separating them from Ewan Tindall and Paul Hudson.
It was even closer for the senior crews, Quintin Milne and Chris Collie lead the event for most of the day in their Subaru, but were forced to accept 2nd place after a late push from Nigel Feeney and Abi Louden gave them a 9 second winning margin in their EVO8.
Gary Adam and Neil Ogilvie steered their Mk2 to RWD success, with Nick Rintoul and Dave Cranston winning the FWD class in the Skoda. 4WD honours went to Charlie and Lindsay Shaw in the Impreza.
Trophies were presented by Major John Bowgen who went on to praise the competitors and organisers, and extend an invitation for the Club to return to the venue, an active military base used by The Royal Marines, to run further rallies.
Sunday and Glenrothes MSC were at Knockhill, running an autosolo (all forwards autotest) for 23 competitors. A wide variety of machinery lead to an exciting day of sport, fastest time of the day went to Michael Sciberras in his Caterham, and he also collected the team award alongside Douglas Thain and Fergus Kennedy. The Club are running tests at Knockhill on a regular basis so watch the web site for future dates.
As if that wasn’t enough for one weekend, club member John Rintoul was competing at the Border Counties Rally. Unfortunately he clipped a rock and ended up in a ravine, with extensive damage to his Accent WRC. Better luck for fellow member Alan Cowan who collected a class win at the same event.
Finally, Richard Hislop, who has been our regular recovery operator at GlenrothesMSC events for a number of years, was helping as normal at Condor on Saturday. Then on Sunday he was in hospital receiving a kidney transplant, with the early signs looking positive. Richard has been a tremendous servant to the Club and we all wish him and his wife Hazel well at this time.
